New York The Belnord Jewel Box

Oliver Cloutier Interiors is proud to present their second project at The Belnord in New York City, The Jewel Box. Oliver Cloutier Interiors, selected with the highest praise, was tasked with delivering "a jewel box" for the client. This space combines sophistication with high-performance, using materials for both elegance and functionality.

Modern Elegance Meets Art Deco

Once again honoring the pre-war gem, the firm custom designed millwork features to ground the spaces. Although contemporary, the design gives a subtle nod to art deco. Various tones of aged bronze, goatskin parchment, alabaster, and art glass were hand selected and placed.

The warmth of open pore white oak flooring offsets the barely white walls and moldings with plastered ceiling trim overhead. The decorative lighting, once again acting as jewelry, had to speak the same language while also being unique.

Elegant Yet Functional Design

The client was clear that their two dogs lived alongside them at home. Welcomed onto the furniture as family, the firm's objective was to focus on high-performance materials while being elegant and soft. Through the use of textural layers, the design becomes timeless

Designing a Tranquil Sanctuary

A bit different for the firm, bold patterns were embraced and strategically placed onto wall coverings, accents, and area rugs. For the Primary Bedroom, Shawn Michael Graves wanted to create a sanctuary for the client.

Throwing fear to the wind, risks were taken with educated hands. Putting bold patterns together that separately appear to not match was gut instinct for the room. Doing so while creating a tranquil space is no easy task. Using a willow-themed mural wallpaper, the interior walls disappear. "I wanted the space to feel as if you were under the canopy of an ancient protective tree. The vision came quickly and I knew I had to trust it", said Mr. Graves.

Bedroom Design

By the time of completion, the client had become Oliver Cloutier family. After a two day white glove installation that included artwork, accessories, and custom bedding, the client visited for the first time and had only one thing to say.

She had been given her Jewel Box.
