The Belle Meade Hideaway project, in the historic Morningside District, highlights Oliver Cloutier Interiors' swift and skilled work. Brought on board halfway through construction, the project was completed in four weeks, blending Mediterranean and art deco styles to fit the neighborhood's charm. The design features calming textures and subtle color accents, tailored for a family known for entertaining.
Having spent his college days living in Miami Beach, Shawn Michael Graves remembers his first introduction to Belle Meade. “A friend invited me to a party as his guest. I had no idea this neighborhood existed. Right away, I knew I had discovered a gem.” Hidden within the Morningside Historic District, the neighborhood started in the 1920’s with a unique use of the vernacular of the day. Mediterranean styles blend effortlessly with art deco influences.
Although the project is new construction for the neighborhood, the firm wanted to keep the authenticity of the area. Being hired more than halfway through construction, Oliver Cloutier Interiors had to hit the ground running and hard.
With pending completion looming, the entire interior design was presented within four weeks leaving no stone unturned. “We gave attention to every detail, down to lightbulbs for table lamps. The design was comprehensive and intentional,” says Shawn Michael Graves. The hand selection of artwork, accessories, and custom designed bedding gave the client a turnkey design experience.
The client’s family was young. Either about to graduate or just graduated from college, their children were at the perfect age to enjoy Miami with their massive base of friends. The client was very clear. They were “that” family; the home all the friends gravitated towards. She advised the firm to think of it as a private hotel, and that is what they did with class and charm.
Once again leaning on textures rather than pattern, the calmness of the design shines through. There is a sense of home in all of our projects. Spaces to walk into and feel instantly relaxed and welcomed.
Without being cliché, each bedroom took on its own personality while remaining part of the concept. Smooth and rounded edges mixed with textural fabrics were key. The client wanted color, but not a colorful home. The firm layered in subtle accents in tones of peacock, amber, and rose. High gloss wood, glass, lacquer and honed stone balanced out the design.
In the end, the intent is evident. Part retreat, part hideaway, its a welcoming home that hums with happiness.
Through the process, our clients were involved, inquisitive, and gracious. They have now become part of our Oliver Cloutier family.
